China is on the move with new Railway Projects
China’s top economic planner has approved the investment of 194.58 billion yuan (about 28.6 billion US dollars) in five rail projects, according to a statement issued Thursday by the Ministry of Transport on its website.
The National Development and Reform Commission has approved the construction of a 432-kilometer railway between Ganzhou in east China’s Jiangxi province and Shenzhen for an estimated cost of 64.13 billion yuan, according to the statement.
The commission also gave the green light to the railway linking Beijing with Tangshan in northern China’s Hebei province to improve transportation in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
It is estimated that this project will invest 44.9 billion yuan, according to the same source.
With the aim of revitalizing the northeastern region, a 375-kilometer railway between the cities of Mudanjiang and Jiamusi, both in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang, which will be built at an estimated cost of 38.56 billion yuan.
According to official data, the Chinese government plans to spend 4.7 trillion yuan in the construction of transport infrastructure until 2019.
