SeaWorld officials said Tilikum, “the killer whale who killed a trainer at Orlando park has died of bacterial pneumonia”.

Aimée Jeansonne Becka a spokes woman for Sea World, announced the official results of her autopsy of the Killer Whale on Friday in an email.

The Orca whale had been receiving many treatments for a very persistent bacterial infection when he died on 6th of January. It is estimated that the age of this male killer whale was around 36 years old.

The Orca appeared in the film documentary of “Blackfish”, which helped to change public popular opinion of future killer whales in the parks of Sea World are not kept in captivity.

Criticism of the captivity of the whale increased dramatically after Tilikum grabbed trainer Dawn Brancheau back in 2010 right after a show called “Dine with Shamu” and dragged the trainer to the pool, killing her. Also, it is believed that Tilikum had something to do with the deaths of two other people in the 1990s, reports say.

Tilikum was SeaWorld’s most prolific male killer whale and fathered 14 offspring in the 25 years he lived in Orlando Florida.
