A nephew of the Medellín Cartel chief Pablo Escobar Gaviria was arrested Friday at El Dorado airport in Bogota, when he tried boarding a flight to Zurich, Migration Colombia reported.
Nicolás Enrique Escobar Urquijo, 46, was arrested because he had a red circular from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) that sought him for the crime of aggravated theft, the report said.
The detainee is the son of Roberto Escobar Gaviria, alias “El Osito”, who in 1993 lost an eye opening a letter-bomb sent to the maximum security prison of Itaguí in which he was serving time, near Medellin.
El Osito”, 69, is Pablo’s older brother.
Escobar Urquijo, who was abducted for several months in 1993, is remembered for suing the state for a million dollars after being expropriated from a hotel in Pereira (center).
Pablo Escobar, head of the drug cartel was shot dead in December 1993 on the roof of a Medellin home while trying to escape a police siege.
