Trump

On Tuesday, he claimed that around 20 Republican members of the Electoral college are considering turning their backs on Donald Trump by voting against him.

The anti-Trump group supported by Lessig, named “ ELECTORS TRUST” are planning to ditch Trump. They will also act like a clearinghouse for the other electors, so as to share their intentions privately.

The Harvard Professor on Trump cited,

Obviously, whether an elector ultimately votes his or her conscience will depend in part upon whether there are enough doing the same. We now believe there are more than half the number needed to change the result seriously considering making that vote.

According to a Report!

The Electors will be voting their ballots on December 19th 2016.

In case, anti-trump electors manages to whip up the required votes against Trump then the decision would be forwarded to the controlling house-GOP.

Though, Lawrence Lessig provided no evidence in order to prove his claims, but he says that his group has been contacted by 20 Republicans who are ready to stand against Trump.

It is not clear yet, whether any of these anti-Trump GOP electors who live in the states with a law would be allowed to vote for Trump or else they will be replaced by a pro-Trump alternate. Also, same laws are being challenged in the court.

It is also not revealed whether any Republicans in these states who are planning to vote against Trump would be counted or not.
On December 19th, around 538 members of the Electoral College along with 232 Democrats and 306 Republicans are expected to cast their votes for President.

So, if all the Republicans support Trump, he would need only 270 votes to become the President. That is why the anti-Trump activists are now lobbying to convince 37 more Republicans to vote against Trump.
